December is always a busy month in our libraries, with Family Time at the Library events happening around the county. This year we are especially busy with our brand new library in Kinnegad, and Kilbeggan Library reopening. We hope you get the chance to drop in and take look at these new or refurbished libraries.
Family Time at Your Library
Snowman scavenger hunt in Kinnegad Library
Our clever staff have hidden 6 snowmen around the library floor! All you have to do is pick up your scavenger hunt map from the library desk and start searching! Don’t forget to put your contact details at the back and return to staff to be in with a chance of winning a prize!

Our staff have designed a special sheet featuring the front of Kinnegad Library — and we want you to colour and decorate it in your own creative style!Simply fill in your details on the back of the sheet and return your finished artwork to the library by 23 December.

Get into the festive season with this abridged version of the timeless classic as part of Family Time At Your Library. Places are limited, so book your spot now.

Join us for some festive storytime followed by colouring this Christmas in Mullingar Library. Suitable for age 4-8 years. Booking required.

Join us for Christmas Toddler Storytime in Kinnegad Library. Booking is essential. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
20 December at 11.00amFestive Storytime in Kilbeggan Library
Join us for a festive storytime and sing-along this Christmas in Kilbeggan Library.Suitable for toddlers and younger children under 6 years old. No booking required - simply pop along! All children must be accompanied by an adult.
23 December at 10.30amChristmas Storytime in Mullingar Library
Mullingar Library’s Creative Writing Group would like to share some of their Christmas stories with us! Suitable for age 5+. All are welcome and no booking required.

Money Made Simple
All Westmeath Libraries are offering free one-to-one financial sessions for anyone who needs help with the basics i.e. using a banking app to spotting an online scam. If you are interested please contact your local library and ask about dates and times. These sessions book out quickly so make sure to get in touch if you are interested.
Unlocking Digital Skills
Would you like some help with digital technology? We have some one-to-one sessions where you can ask those burning questions. Whether that is how to attach a document to an email, or how to set your robot vacum cleaner’s schedule, these are the sessions for you. Remember, demand is high, so please ask about the digital skills classes in your local library.
Climate Conversations for the over 55s
A free 6 week Beginners Climate Course for the over 55s, will start in County Buildings, Mullingar on Wednesday 14th January 2026. These workshops are led by Jacinta Barrins, a retired UN diplomat. She’d love to talk to anyone interested in learning more about climate change, what it means, and how we can all take simple actions.
These workshops are free, but please book in advance.
Menopause and Perimenopause with Dr Deirdre Forde
In this Healthy Ireland At Your Library event, Dr Deirdre Forde from Ceile Medical Centre will be talking about menopause and perimenopause, and answering any questions you may have.
The event is free but registration is required.

Christmas Opening Hours
All Westmeath Libraries will close on Tuesday 23 December at 4pm, reopening on 31 December from 9.40am until 4pm.
Usual hours resume on 2 January 2026.
